Mechanic ‘broke cars so he could charge to fix them’
Published by onlines on October 30, 2009
A mechanic in Tennessee has been accused of going around breaking people’s cars so that he could then charge them to fix the damage.
Christopher Walls, 41, of Johnson City was arrested by police on Thursday, and charged with two counts of theft.
Authorities say that Walls would hang around restaurant car parks, and disable cars parked there. He’d then wait for the owners to return, whereupon he’d offer his services as a mechanic and charge between $40 and $200 (£24 and £121) to repair the cars.
While so far Walls has only been charged with two incidents, police suspect that he probably worked the scam more times, and are looking for further victims to come forward.
